Getting a Railcard doesn’t need to be a hassle

Whether you want to get a digital Railcard or prefer the traditional version, there are 2 ways you can purchase your Senior Railcard:

  • Online (1-year or 3-year Railcard)

  • At a staffed station ticket office (1-year Railcard only)

Apply Online

You can apply online to get a digital or physical Railcard.

Simply complete the form here.

But, before you do, make sure you have everything listed below to hand:

  • A valid form of identification such as a Passport, UK Driving License or EEA National Identity card
  • A passport-style photo of you saved on your computer or device if you want to get a digital Railcard
  • Your device with the Railcard App installed if you want to get a digital Railcard
  • A valid debit or credit card

If you are applying for a digital Railcard

Once your application has been procesed, you should receive an email with a digital Railcard download code.

Open your Railcard App, tap the ‘+’ button on the top left of the screen and tap '+' button under 'Add an existing Railcard' and enter the download code.

I haven’t received my digital Railcard download code

If our email doesn't land straight in your inbox, it’s worth checking your Junk folder. If it’s still not there, you will need to log back into your account, either on your desktop or on your phone, and follow the links to request a new code.

I have the code, but it isn’t working

This can be due to 2 things:

  • As the code is time-sensitive, it may have expired. Make sure when you’re signing up for your Railcard you’re in a position to activate it right away
  • Your Railcard has been activated on a maximum of 2 devices. You will need to log into your Railcard account, go to Manage your Devices and select the device from which you want to remove your Railcard. You should then be able to add your Railcard to another device

If you’re ordering online and choose to have a physical Railcard, please allow up to 5 working days for it to get to you.

You can pay £6.50 for our Special Delivery service if you need it quickly. As long as you have placed your order before 15.45, this will guarantee that your Railcard is delivered within 2 days (Monday to Thursday) or 3 days (Friday to Sunday).

Apply in person

You can also apply for your Railcard by visiting any staffed station ticket office and get your Railcard on the same day! Just be sure to allow yourself plenty of time between purchasing your Railcard and when you need to depart for your journey.

Before visiting the ticket office, make sure you have everything with you listed below:

  • A completed application form, which you can print and download here
  • A valid form of identification such as a Passport, UK Driving Licence, EEA National Identity card or birth certificate
  • A valid debit or credit card

You can also renew your 1-Year Railcard at a staffed station ticket office. No need to bring all of the above, just your current Railcard and a form of identification to prove it’s you.
