Events for Lovers of Script and Screen

26th September 2017

Explore the written word and observe literature from a different point of view

What better way to spend your evening than by ‘feeding’ your mind and soul.

These incredible events will stay engraved in your mind, for they truly are a perfect fit for lovers of literature and performance.

  1. London Literature Festival – 13th Oct – 1st Nov

The Southbank Centre brings you an incredible opportunity to feel the power of literature in a 19-day journey, through the London Literature Festival. Featuring a live reading of Nelson Mandela’s memoirs by Hillary Clinton, Tom Hanks, Philip Pullman and Annie Leibovitz, this is an opportunity to explore the written word and “observe” literature from a different point of view.

  1. London Film Festival – 4th Oct – 15th Oct

Lose yourselves in performances by highly acclaimed actors, at this 11-day event. With screenings around various London cinemas, you can binge on a different film every night and feel the power of cinematography and storytelling with your closest friends or family.

  1. Britain on Film: Black Britain – 8th Oct at the Barbican Cinema.

Celebrating black British life through the 20th Century, this selection of archive films includes little-seen footage from Shabazz’s Blood Ah Go Run, which looks at the aftermath of the deaths of thirteen young black people in New Cross in 1981, to the celebrations at Notting Hill Carnival.

  1. The PEN Pinter Prize 2017: Michael Longley – 10th Oct at the British Library.

The PEN Pinter Prize was established in 2009 by the worldwide writers’ association and freedom of expression charity English PEN in memory of Nobel-laureate playwright Harold Pinter. The prize will be shared with an International Writer of Courage: a writer who is active in defence of freedom of expression, often at great risk to their own safety and liberty, selected by Michael Longley from a shortlist of international cases supported by English PEN.

It's time to prove to yourself that you are growing and learning and what better way than reading and watching others stories. These events will enrich your life for many years to come.
